Introduction:
The Druid is a flexible character that will change form and shapeshift to the required style at a moment notice. The druid is the standard form which is great for a brief pause to heal his wounds, the bear is the defensive form increasing the defence dice pool and ability, the cat is the aggressive form modifying the attack and wounding the enemy
Complexity:
The complexity of the druid is a four. This is due purely to the shapeshift mechanism. It is important for the player to know when to shift, to build good defences or properly strike when the opportunity arises.
Forms:
There are three forms that the player shifts between. The shapeshift status effect can be stacked two high and can be used at any time. There are also cards that can be used for a transformation for each form. Each form has particular cards that can only be used in that form.
The druid is the starting form. At the end of each phase the Druid or a teammate can gain a regenerate token.
The bear form is the perfect mode for defence. When in bear four instead of two dice are rolled in defence, as well as unlocking a reduced damage in half of the die results.
The other strong ability with the bear is the maul action. Using the bear allows for a re-roll in an attempt to gain a stronger attack.
The cat is a pure aggressive form, creating opportunities for attack modifiers and inflicting wounds.
Status Effects:
The shapeshifting status effect has already been explained above. The other two effects are regenerate and wound.
Regenerate is an amazing healing. With a stack of two regenerate will heal two damage at the start of a turn then flip to heal one health next turn before being discarded.
Wound can be stacked two high and will deal one damage to the opponent on each of their upkeeps until they successfully discard the wound by rolling a 4, 5 or 6. Wound is similar to the status effect bleed, it is easier to remove but will deal the damage before the die is rolled to determine if the effect stays.
Upgrades:
The druid's main focus is not on upgrades. He only has three upgrades available in the deck, the focus for them is their shapeshifting.
Final Thoughts:
- Shifting forms at the right time is the key to the complexity of the character.
- Equal parts are aggressive and defensive.
- Great healing capabilities.
Druid is a very flexible character. He has a broad range of skills based on the form he takes. The bear is defensive adding more defensive rolls and more opportunity to prevent damage. The cat is aggressive modifying it's attack and dealing wounds which will slowly damage the enemy over time. Lastly the druid is good for some respite with one of the best forms of healing I have used so far. The complexity in the character is when to change forms. Since the player can stack the shapeshift effect two high and can use the effect at any time, meaning on a good turn the player can shift back and forth at will to respond to the situation as needed. If you like the sound of the Druid and in particular balancing his three forms I can easily recommend adding Druid to your collection.
