Introductions:
I am slowly going down the rabbit hole of dominion expansions. I found this at a buy and sell. Hinterlands is great for low complexity expansions.
Cards:
There are plenty of fun action cards in this expansion. The main new focus on these cards is the bottom text of some. This text will either award a benefit when the card is gained. There are also some cards that have effects that will be active simply for having this card in the game. Like the Duchess that will be gained by a player when they acquire a duchy.
The other crucial element of Hinterlands is there are a lot of ways to gain better control of the players deck, through cycling through their deck by drawing and discarding cards, or having larger turns simply by drawing more cards on a turn.
There is a good range of victory, treasure and reaction cards added. Farmland and Fools Gold would have to be my favourites. With fools gold rewarding players for having more Fools Gold and the Farmland may be another victory that sits in the players deck but it allows the player to upgrade another card when gained.
Final Thoughts:
- Good range of cards.
- Interesting when gained and always in play effects.
Hinterlands is an easy addition to anyone's Dominion collection, who isn't looking to amplify the game mechanics but simply looking for a welcome range of variability. This is the perfect expansion to add at the start.
