Introduction:

Doomlings: The Legends of Enderas is a new large expansion for the hit game ‘Doomlings’. This expansion includes 133 new unique cards for the returning archetypes of dinolings, mythlings and techlings. There is also a new mechanism called treasures. Each Legend of Enderas expansion contains a unique holo-foil and for the collectors out there, gold packs can be purchased at Doomlings’ website for more holofoil cards or alternate art cards.

Dinolings:

Dinolings are very interested in the discard pile as they will often interact with it either by digging through it or using the top card. The biggest issue with them is that they are giant and often require you to discard cards from your hands or your played traits to add them into the tableu.

Mythlings:

Mythlings are themed around the fantasy tropes. These are traits that either like to be discarded (or discard others) to award benefits. This archetype pairs well with the dinolings as they both use the discard pile.

Techlings:

Techlings probably has the most advanced types of traits in this expansion. Some techlings will have an attach ability and each trait can have one attachment. If anything happens to the host of this attachment, the attachment will also be affected. This attachment will still score points like normal, be counted for its trait colour, and add to the trait count (for scoring effects on other traits).

Fuzelings:

Fuzelings are a combination of two or three of these archetypes, combining in a way that allows the themes/mechanisms of these groups to merge perfectly. Some fuzelings will also be multicoloured traits that count as both colours at all times.

Treasure:

Treasure is a new card type that is not included in the player's hand and contains two ability options at the bottom of the card. These abilities can be;

- Rush - played at the start of your turn.
- Echo - play the denoted coloured trait again.
- Mutate - returns one existing trait in your tableu to the bottom of the deck and replaces it with one card from your hand of the specified colour.
- Cloak - a defensive ability used to mitigate you from negative elements.
- Adapt - ignore the action on the card you are playing and use one from a previously played trait in any trait pile of the specified colour.

The tricky element to treasures is that they have two action options, but only one can be used and then the card is discarded. There are two ways to play treasures. My preferred way is to have three treasures per game, with no new treasures being added later on. Alternatively, each player will start with one treasure and, once a new age is revealed every round, every player with less than two treasures will gain a new one.

Final Thoughts:

- Certain doomling types have returned with this expansion.
- Treasures are easy to learn, but add a good decision space to help with turns that may not be as fulfilling in the base game.
- Large expansions with plenty of fun traits.
- Doomlings of certain types lead players toward certain playstyles, assisting with a lot of the chaos.
- The trait deck will be getting very large. Players may want to start organising the doomlings into modular piles to assist with this.

Doomlings is a fun tableu builder with some take-that elements. This expansion comes with three different doomling trait themes (dinolings, mythlings, and techlings). Dinolings will sway the game with large scoring traits; mythlings like to be discarded to gain their benefits, and techlings add a new ability that allows these traits to be attached to others. Each of these doomling types really shine on their own and adds a good mix to the game, especially when the fuzelings are used. As the deck grows with more and more doomling types, I'm unsure if I will mix traits together or start including only some doomling types, creating a modular setup and allowing their mechanisms to properly shine each game.

The treasures are a perfect addition to the game with two different ways to play. When playing with just three treasures per game, it creates a lot of agency in the players to decide when to use these treasures. The treasures I would definitely use every game and enjoy the styles and abilities that these new doomlings add to the game. If you’re already a fan of Doomlings, then check out The Legends of Enderas for more of the existing content.
