Introduction:
Mindbug is a streamlined head-to-head game with a big twist. Twice per game you can steal the creature a player just played by using your mindbug. For the full review of the base game click here. This review however is focused on the standalone expansion set of Battlefruits Kingdom. The theme of this set, and its sibling set Battlefruits Galaxy, is now focused on gorgeous food hybrids that will have you hungry for more of this vibrant art.
Keywords:
All your favourite keywords from earlier sets are still here. My particular favourite is Hunter which allows you to select who will defend.
Harvest:
Harvest adds a new timer element to your creature's abilities. When some creatures are played they will enter with several octonite tokens (shown on the bottom left).
Each turn, any of your creatures with an octonite token will have one removed. When all tokens are removed the creature's ability will resolve that turn. These vary from small timers all the way up to a creature with a large timer where once all are removed, will win the game.

Fast:
Fast is a common keyword in other head-to-head games and here will allow you to attack with the creature on the same turn. This is particularly useful in Mindbug as you only have one action per turn, this being either to attack with one creature or summon, whereas this keyword lets you do both.
Final Thoughts:
- Can be played standalone
- New timer element to the game.
- The octonite tokens are further explored in Battlefruits Galaxy.
Mindbug is already a great fast-playing head-to-head game with a vast amount of replayability built in. Battlefruits Kingdom adds two new exciting keywords, my personal favorite of the two being Harvest. The octonite tokens give the players a new timer element that makes the opposing player rush to either find a way to defeat or take the character before their stronger ability resolves. If you already enjoy Mindbug then this fresh setting of BattleFruit is going to be an easy decision, as everything already mixes perfectly with any other set. If you were sitting on the sidelines waiting for the game to evolve further then I think now is a good time to get into Mindbug as there is a good amount of keywords developed and the game is also starting to stretch the envelope with new elements not as commonly seen in head to head games of its ilk.

Battle fruits Kingdom sounds like such a fun twist on Mind bug! I love the idea of combining gameplay strategy with a vibrant, food-themed aesthetic. It’s cool how expansions can bring a fresh vibe to an already great game. The artwork alone sounds worth checking out—who wouldn’t want to battle it out with hybrid food creatures?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of food and fun, if you’re into quirky and addictive games, you should totally try Hungry Shark! It’s got that same kind of playful energy and will definitely keep you entertained.
