Introduction:

Air, Land and Sea is a back-and-forth two-player card game of area control and decisions of if and when you surrender. For the full review click here. This review is about the stand-alone/ expansion; Spies, Lies and Supplies.

New Theatres:

There are three new theatres added with this expansion; intelligence, diplomacy and economics. Each theatre works like the base game where the associated cards of value 3 and 6 are the same across each theatre, but all other values differs in ability.

Intelligence is focused on the board state and your opponent's hand.

Diplomacy focuses on covered and uncovered cards.

Economics is focused on ‘Supply Tokens’. These tokens will be placed on the theatre itself, rather than individual cards, to increase a side by 1-2 strength per token.

Combining Games:

The base game is easily combined with the expansion as the players can deal out three random theatres and determine which matching cards are used.

Epic Mode:

Instead of playing a standard game, players can choose an epic game that has a 10-card hand and will play with five theatres instead of three.

Higher Player Count:

There is now a way to play with 3-4 players which does not require components so can also be applied to the base game alone. This is done by team play and sharing the cards between two hands, alternating turn order within the team.

Final Thoughts

- Covered/uncovered cards feel more important.
- Adds variety between plays due to being able to mix and match theatres.

These theatres included with Air, Land and Sea - Spies, Lies and Supplies has more of an espionage feel rather than brute force which, judging by the name, is intended. This doesn't slow the game down by any degree, however, just presents challenges for each player to anticipate and plan around. If you enjoy the back-and-forth tension that Air, Land and Sea delivers but want a shake-up from the original; Spies, Lies and Supplies delivers.
