Basics:

Candy Hunters is a tile placement and pattern-building game where you are trying to create neighbourhoods to match your pattern card.

When you score the pattern card, a number of things will occur; you will gain a scare token for each ghost on any of the buildings in your pattern (these are negative points), the scored tile is collected and flipped to depict candy, you regain your character token as well as the tile(s) beneath the token. At the end of the game, you will score 2 points for every pattern card collected, 2 points to the player who collected the first candy of each colour, 1 point per other candy, and -1 point for each scare token.

Uniqueness:

The uniqueness of the game comes from the token movement system in regards to moving a ghost. Each turn you move one ghost out of four on the board up to two times. The objective with moving a ghost isn't about where you place the ghost but more about how they scare the other pieces across the board (tokens/ghosts). Each location can only hold one game piece so when you scare a piece by moving into its location it will move to any adjacent location you chose. If done skillfully this can cause a chain effect, moving your tokens into pivotal spots for scoring or making the ghost infest the area your opponent was working towards.

Zig-Zag:

Each game has six rounds and five tokens that you will be able to place. Each turn consists of four phases; placing a building tile adjacent to a previously played tile, move your ghost, score any patterns in your hand that match the buildings in the central area, and place one of your tokens on an unoccupied building.

The challenge in the game comes from optimising the six turns. It is not easy to achieve the pattern cards and, depending on your luck and the number of players, this could take 2 to 3 turns to create the pattern. In a game with only 6 turns it is pivotal that you move as optimised as possible when you do finally score. This means having no ghosts on your buildings, being the first to gain a candy type and having your tokens on the buildings being scored. To achieve this, it is all about the ghost. You should be able to scare the other tokens in a uniquely puzzle way to benefit effectively from each pattern you score.

Zone:

- Unique ghost movement.

- Great for families

- Easy for anyone to play but challenging to get a high score.

- Limited turns and scoring chances.

Candy Hunters is a lightning-fast game that is perfect for the Halloween season. The game is optimal for families with its light rules and fast playtime but also has a lot of depth with token movement, both in a way of blocking and maximising your points. If you are looking for a family weight game to enjoy during the spooky season then this is one to back. Check it out when it reaches gamefound on the 1st of February 2024.
