Introduction:

Tommy Oliver, one of the most prolific Power Rangers of all time, is coming into full force with an expansion of his own. This expansion includes all the heroic versions of the years that he has been a power ranger while also including his villainous robot doppelganger.

New Characters:

Four new characters have been added with this expansion, each focusing on a different time period of Tommy Oliver.

Mighty Morphin Green:

The original villain turned hero, the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger, begins with an interesting decision for the player, where they have two character card options for this ranger. The player can choose to go solo and gain an extra dice on each attack, as long as you are the only ranger in combat. This playstyle is amplified by many cards in the deck, allowing the player to gain extra attacks. Otherwise, the player can choose team synergy and add a card into fellow players' hands. This team gameplay is boosted by the manoeuvre 'Dagger Solo' that has all combat cards reduced by one energy for the rest of the battle.

Mighty Morphin White:

The white ranger is all about chaining combos together and, as an added bonus, can pre-emptively attack at the start of a battle before the other rangers have their first turn. He can further chain the combo by playing other players’ zero cost cards after the 'Flying Tiger' attack. This is done simply by paying one energy or he can re-add the 'Feinting Slash' back into his hand if any of the dice rolls were a failed attack.

Turbo Red:

Turbo Red is all about the X-cost attacks where you can pay any amount of energy you would like to do a stronger attack. Not only are there plenty of ways to gain energy with the ranger cards, but the character card also allows, once per battle, for an X card to have one added energy when resolving.

Dino Thunder Black:

Dino Thunder Black first appeared in Dino Thunder and is the older mentor version of Tommy Oliver. His attacks in the game have a wide range of versatility including attacking with many dice but missing the next turn, and attacking multiple different enemies with one attack. The interesting part of this ranger is that all his cards cost one or less energy to use. The only exception to this is the 'Brachio Staff' which allows the player to chose two cards from their discard pile to use this turn for free, as long as they cost one or less energy.

New Monster:

Health Range: 3 -5
Keywords: Guard twice, fast and passive once.

Since Tommy is a natural leader, it's expected that the Evil Robot Tommy then targets the leader. This is exactly what this monster does. All of the attacks have a large focus on damaging the lead ranger. This point is further amplified by the passive card that demands single combat and will only allow the lead ranger to play combat cards while the monster card is active.

Zords and Megazord:

Four new zords are added to the game, with each one matching one of the ranger characters. The main standout zord comes from the Brachiozord who brings zords from outside of the game to have a one-time use in each action phase. This expansion also adds a megazord into the game, the famous dragonzord in his battle mode. At the start of each battle, one unsuspecting enemy in its location will be the target of a six-dice attack.

Legendary Ranger Mode:

This new mode allows players to create their custom ranger deck by combining powers from multiple rangers. Obtain the character miniatures and cards of the rangers you choose to mix. When building a deck you must have three cards with one shield, four cards with two shields and three cards with three shields. When choosing your zord, you may choose any that matches one of these rangers. During the game, only one character card and ability are active at a time. When a player moves or recovers, they can change the active character miniature and card to one of the other rangers that make up the ranger deck and have a new ranger ability active.

Final Thoughts:

- No legendary ranger mode is available for the two-player game mode.

- Great theme for an expansion pack.

- Two of the rangers have two character cards available.

- Is mainly a ranger expansion but does include one monster for added variability.

For fans of Tommy Oliver, this is an instant addition to your collection. For the other fans of the game, this is a great addition with four rangers who come with varying playstyles, a challenging monster that's better faced alone, and a new Megazord. These theme packs are a welcome addition and are an easy recommendation.
