Shadow Kingdoms of Valeria has expanded with Rise of Titans, which adds four modules that can be played one at a time or combined together. If you missed the original review of the base game  check out that review here.

Ancient Spells:

At the start of setup each player will gain three ancient spells. Ancient spells can be used once per turn as a free action. These cards have two options per card, when they are used the player will select one option giving them a boost of resources, strength or victory points.

Great Battles:

When using great battles one of each troop dice will be added to the bag, additionally each player will gain 5 participation markers. Great battles are an added feature that brings a bonus area and a small area control portion for the lowest dice. When players complete battle plans they will place the lowest dice in a great battle (as long as the dice type meets one of the two listed types on the great battle). Then they will gain the bonus associated with the location the player chooses to cover. One of the participation markers will be added to the top of the great battle. When the great battle is full the total strength will be tallied and players will gain victory points based on the amount of participation markers they have.

Wraith dice:

Wraith dice are dice that can only be a 1, 2 or 3. The discount remains the same as the other dice so these dice will always give players a good discount bonus. The other benefit is that these dice act as wilds when completing battle plans or when effecting great battles. Each game will only contain wraith dice equal to the player count.

Shrine of Titans:

The Shrine of Titans adds a seventh location for players to visit on their turn that allows the player to buy troops. This is great for when you are struggling to get that last troop, and even better is that these troops will consistently have higher strength values due to how they spawn. When a player completes a battle plan the highest troop they used in this battle will go to the shrine, keeping the troops here equal to the player count (discarding any old troops that exceeds that).

Final Thoughts:

Key Points:

- Enhances the base game without too much complexity.

-  Can add whatever modules you enjoy the most.

- None of the modules change the game drastically.

Rise of Titans has enhanced the original game of Shadow Kingdoms of Valeria by adding four mini expansions which players can add or leave alone. All of these are great additions that don't over complexify the game. The best additions would be the wraith dice that give a wild dice, as well as a dice that consistently has a high discount value, and the great battles that add an additional thought to be considered when developing battle plans. If you enjoyed Shadow Kingdoms of Valeria then this is an easy addition as everything easily fits in the box and meshes seamlessly with the base game.
