Wingspan Nest Bowl and First Player Marker: Review

Wingspan Nest Bowl and First Player Marker: Review

Introduction:

Wingspan is a best-selling game by Stonemaier Games. Players are bird watchers collecting birds. Each card is a unique bird and players are using these birds to create engines that will expand and activate whenever the player uses that habitat. For the full review you can read my original here

This is a game that already has a great table presence with gorgeous multicoloured eggs, but nowhere to really store them during the game. The team at Game Maker have you covered with these sturdy and detailed 3D-printed nest bowls.

Nest Bowl:

The Nest bowls could be used in two ways. They could be used for each player to store the resources that are accruing throughout the game, or they can be used to store the game’s egg resources. I find the better use to be the second option of  storing the pool of egg resources as these bowls are a perfect size and can hold a large number of eggs. I have the majority of the Wingspan content, including the speckled eggs and these two bowls hold about 90% of these eggs.

The quality of the nesting bowls is outstanding as they are dense and detailed. I can't imagine them breaking any time soon. For a direct link to the nest bowls click here.

First Player Marker:

When you have a lot of players, you want to be able to spot the first player easily from a distance. With this 3D-printed owl, you can.

The details on the front are more precise than the back of the owl, but that doesn't make the piece stand out any less.  It is good to see that they chose an owl for the marker as it is an underused bird type currently in wingspan.

Final Thoughts:

- Sturdy components.

- Nesting bowls have plenty of storage capacity.

- Owl marker easily shows ‘HOO’ the first player is.

- Quality 3D printing.

I am of the frame of mind that if I enjoy a game enough, I want to upgrade my components and elevate the table presence of that game. Wingspan is one of my favourite games and I have already added speckled eggs, gaining more colour to the eggs and printed 3D tokens to replace the cardboard resource tokens. The first player owl marker and nest bowls are accessories that further enhance the game. Having components like these add to the joy and elation you feel as you play the game. Game Maker have created detailed and sturdy components that are an easy recommendation to improve the table presence for every game of Wingspan. These components don't have to be used specifically for wingspan, they could be used for another nature or bird-themed game quite easily, so if you already love a game that these components can enhance then this upgrade is an easy recommendation.
