Introduction:

The Power Rangers from the 17th season have joined the fray. A lot of the expansions so far have been more content based and this expansion does exactly that while also bringing a mechanism called RPM. This works as an interesting system that gives players a way to work around those pesky blocks. If you are new to the Power Rangers Deck Building Game this review is purely focusing on the new content. To learn the game I recommend going to my original review by clicking here.

Content:

The contents of this expansion include:

- 8 unique cards for the maneuver, equipment, hero, and villain card types

- 4 unique locations

- 5 zord cards and 1 megazord

- 5 master cards

- 12 nitro blaster cards (a nice way to gain RPM)

- 10 character cards with their unique signature card

New Mechanisms/Terms:

RPM:

RPM is the core part of this expansion. There are many ways to gain RPM but one main method to use it. When you attack another player the RPM is discarded, if they do not block an attack then the RPM does nothing, however, if they chose to block then they stop your initial attack but now take unblockable damage equal to the number of RPM tokens discarded.

Attachment:

Attachment is a mechanic that was introduced in the omega expansion but has breathed further life into the expansion. If the card is attached rather than having an ability you have to pay energy to achieve, the card will have an ongoing ability that is continuously active.

Steal Energy:

There is a new keyword on some cards (typically villain cards) that will allow you to steal energy by depleting their energy and gaining it for yourself.

Final Thoughts:

Key Points:

- Great to see the new terms, especially the attachment.

- Plenty of content for a smaller box expansion as another standalone box isn't needed.

- RPM works on many levels.

Power Rangers Deck Building Game is a head to head deck mechanic with a lot of options for different strategic paths. Players can work on filling up the grid with adversaries so the enemy loses health each turn, go down the path that their character is geared towards, and rush into getting masters or zords. RPM's new mechanism further adds to the range of possible strategies, using the RPM as a double bluff to make sure attacks go through, or stockpile them so no matter if the opponent blocks they are taking large damages. Some cards work on other uses for the RPM such as reducing damage from attacks. This is an expansion that has breathed new life into a game I already love so this is easily going to get repeat plays. If you enjoy the base game I recommend this expansion with as much merit as the base game itself.
