Introduction:
Tapestry is back with the latest expansion of Arts and Architecture. The main addition this expansion adds is a fifth track that includes inspiration tiles and masterpiece cards. Besides this, numerous other cards and components have been added to expand on the variability of the base game and first expansion.
Arts Track:
This fifth track greatly expands on the base game of Tapestry. This art track adds many ways to enhance your income phase including the inspiration tiles that change your tracks on your income mat as well as masterpiece cards that will activate every income phase.
Inspiration Tiles:
During setup, each player will receive four of these tiles each one matching an upgraded version on your income mat. When you gain the inspire action you will replace the track on the income mat with the inspiration tile that matches.
Masterpiece Cards:
Masterpiece cards are gained from the create action on the art track. When gained the ability doesn't activate, instead it activates every time during your income phase.
Advanced Capital City Maps:
Six advanced capital cities are added to create extra challenges for the players who enjoy filling their capital city during the game. Each of these capital cities adds a new challenge, for example; cacti cannot be filled on and are impassable plots, and different shaped cities that are islands or clouds.
New Additions:
New Tapestry Cards:
20 new tapestry cards are added to focus on the new art track as well as create more variability.
Three of these tapestry cards have a continuous ability and these abilities are activated by buildings or landmarks being placed on the tapestry card instead of the civilisation card or capital city.
New Civilisations:
Five new civilisations are added to increase the asymmetrical starting points and game-play players have.
New Tech Cards:
11 new tech cards are added for more variability between games. Some of these tech cards have text stating that you must place a landmark on the tech card to advance it to the square spot. When a landmark is placed you automatically upgrade the tech one spot.
New Landmark Cards:
Five new landmark cards have been added expanding on the content that was added in the last expansion.
Final Thoughts:
Pros:
- Additional use of the landmark cards from the first expansion.
- Engaging Arts track that gives players more ways to boost their income phase.
- Engaging advanced capital cities that creates a new challenge for veteran players, I would love to see more of these in the future.
Cons:
- These civilisations don't feel as interesting.
Tapestry: Arts and Architecture is a great addition to an already great game. There are multiple additives focused on the new art track that increases the possibilities of the income phase. Also the addition of new challenging capital city maps each come with their own unique puzzle. If these new additions weren't enough, there are also numerous additions to the existing components to add variability and incorporate the new changes. This expansion also adds more uses for the landmarks that were added in the last expansion. To summarise, this is a great expansion for a game that is in my top 25, this expansion is an instant purchase in my opinion if you already enjoy Tapestry.
