Objective:

In Happy Dim Sum you are trying to serve dishes to your fellow patrons to fill them up and be the last player standing. If any player has three full dishes matching the daily special cards revealed then they will be eliminated and the remaining player is the winner.

Card Anatomy:

Dim Sums:

There are nine types of dim sum cards. These cards will have an illustration of the dim sum and the amount that makes a completed dish displayed in an image in the top left of the card. A complete dish is a full grouping of one type of dim sum.

Action Cards:

These are unique actions that can turn the tide of the dinner service in your favour. These actions include removing/relocating dishes, drawing cards, and making opponents play the dim sums in their hands in front of themselves. Some of these cards can be played as a reaction, which means that they can be played out of turn if the scenario matches the reaction.

Daily Special:

Whenever a daily special is drawn by a player, they have to immediately be put in the middle of the table and that player draws a new card. These daily specials will determine the lose conditions for all players. These are the dishes that will fill up opponents and cause them to be eliminated. Once a daily special is revealed it is considered an active lose condition for the entirety of the game. Once several of these daily specials have been revealed the game becomes a tense back and forth of dinner survival.

Set up:

- Shuffle the dim sum and action cards together and deal each player five cards.

- Once this is done shuffle the daily special cards into the deck.

How to Play:

On your turn you draw two cards then perform three actions. These actions could be any combination of discarding one card, playing a group of the same dim sum cards on another player, or playing an action card. If at any point you run out of cards you will draw a new hand of three. If any player has three full dishes in front of them that match the active daily specials then they are sated and eliminated. If you are the last player to be eliminated then you have won the game.

Final Thoughts:

Pros:

- Easy learn and play.

- Builds up tension when there are multiple special dishes in front of the players.

Cons:

- Very luck-based.

- Can be over too quickly or go on for too long.

Happy Dim Sum is a fun take that game that builds tension based on the number of daily specials revealed. The game will start slow but as more and more of these dishes are revealed the game will become a tense match of back and forth between players. That tension is what makes the game fun as players will be chaotically trying to remove dishes while hindering their opponents. If you are looking for a fun tension-filled family game with cute chibi art then this is a great game to add to your collection.
