Player Age: 12+
Objective:
What time is it? It's Muffin Time!!
The aim of the game is to start your turn with 10 cards in your hand. This is achieved by stealing, winning cards and catching your opponents in traps.
Card Anatomy:
Every card in the game is unique so there are no doubles in the deck. These cards consist of traps, counters, and actions.
Action Cards:
Action cards are the main way that players will draw, steal or have other players discard cards. The really engaging actions are the mini games. These get the players involved in a mini game such as everyone must stand up and the last player has to discard three cards or every player has to hold their breath and the longest lasting player is able to draw three cards.
Trap Cards:
Trap cards are (normally) placed face down in front of a player and will activate when a certain condition is met, such as a player bursting out in song or by saying your first name. These will either have negative effects for the player that activates it or positive effects for the owner.
Counter Cards:
These cards can be played at anytime and will stop or redirect cards being played or activated.
Some of these counters will only be able to stop specifically named cards, but they will at least count towards your win condition of they remain unplayed.
How to Play:
At the start of the game every player will be dealt three cards. When they gain ten cards in hand they have to announce “Muffin Time”. They will win if they still have 10 cards remaining in their hand at the start of their turn.
On a turn a player can play one trap, face down unless stated otherwise, then either play an action or draw a card.
The game is as easy as that.
Final Thoughts:
Pros:
- There are cards that contrast each other.
- Plenty of jokes for any fan of ASDF on youtube.
- Every card is unique.
- The traps add an interesting social deduction feel to players trying to get others to activate their traps.
Cons:
- The game can go for a long time (although there is one card that lets you quit).
'Muffin Time' isn't a serious game but it is a funny one. This is one of the games that you can play with anyone and have an outrageous time filled with laughter. The game may grow old with continuous plays but at this stage I am still having loads of fun with it.
