The Expansion:

Today not one ... but two expansions are being reviewed for ‘Munchkin’. What is Munchkin you ask? Well, assuming you live under a rock as there are more than 20 versions of Munchkin to date, I shall explain it for you. Munchkin is a take that, hand management game where the aim is to get your munchkin character to level 10 before any of the other players. The two expansions featured in this review are ‘Fowl Play’ and ‘Side Quests’.

Fowl Play:

Do you like ducks? Well if you don't then it’s time to chicken out and begin reading the next expansion as this one is purely for the duck lovers. There are 14 cards, six of which are treasure cards and the other eight are door cards. These cards can be added to any munchkin base game, however, as the back of these cards is the standard design it would be suggested to mix with a Munchkin game sharing a standard back (Pathfinder, Oz, Legends).

Side Quests:

This expansion is a bit more complex, it is only 30 cards but can be used with any Munchkin set. Each player will have three side quests at a time and if they complete the objective during their turn they can gain the card reward now and a replacement quest next turn. If one of these side quests are destined to never be completed due to rotten luck, that player can discard that side quests with three other cards from their hand to redraw a new side quests.
What makes this expansion exciting for me is the variant. If you ever thought Munchkin was too long or needed a change of pace then look no further, as there is a variant that lets you win by killing one monster after completing a set amount of side quests. With this variant it could be anyone's victory up until the end.

Final Thoughts:

Pros:
- the side quests variant breathes fresh new life into the win conditions of munchkin
- Fowl Play adds more variety (plus who doesn't like ducks)
- Side quests adds personal missions that can give the players clearer directions.

Cons:
- some of the side quests can seem nearly impossible, especially if the Munchkin deck has a lot of other expansions included.

Fowl Play adds more variability for duck lovers. You can't go wrong with this expansion if you have a standard back Munchkin and want more cards.

Side quests brings a new life to Munchkin for me as I found that a little luck can massively skew the distance between the lead player and the player in last place. However, with the addition of the side quests expansion any player now has an equal chance to win. It would be awesome to see more side quests in the future. If you liked Munchkin but got tired of it then i recommend looking into this expansion to re-ignite your desire to play.
